Gaining competence in drawing is similar to becoming a marathon runner; it can’t happen overnight. But, like running, most of us can already somewhat do it — we just need to devote the time and energy toward building this skill to become truly versed in it.
Your job is to believe what your eyes tell you. Learning to have faith in one's perceptions is one of the principal keys to drawing well.
If you can look at an object or scene and simplify it in your mind’s eye for painting before you start, you are well on the way to becoming a good artist.
